This story is more of a fusion. Multiple ideas that swarmed upon my head and mixed into this madness. The original Project is still being drawn up, and at some point, provided I can get the funding, I do intend to make this. It also factors in the greatest nerd dream of all, and something known as the ACTA, which was meant to stop copyright infringement upon the net. I am unsure of it's progression to this date, but my mind made the worst-case scenario for this.
------------------------------------------------------------------
"Who am I? I think, at this point, the biggest truth is that i'm no paragon. I have lied, cheated, and killed. I am a murderer. and not just by my own hands, I have caused the deaths of millions, in what was known as a rebellion. And yet, I feel no remorse, no pity for any who have died. My name...is Kyono Ieora."
I was catching a plane out of the country. I was living in the US, but when the ACTA passed, and congress voted unanimously to be the hub, I had to bail. Best place to go was on my mind, and I decided the most vocal detractor, Japan, was the best choice. I tossed myself through a crash course in Japanese, and Hopped on a plane out of what would soon be hell.
When I boarded, I had a bag in the cargo area, and my shoulder bag, with a laptop in it. I looked to the man beside me, noting he was asleep before the plane had even taken off. "Must be nice to not have any cares," I had to admit, laughing a little. as others boarded, I noted many of them, including two men in suits who took seats not two rows past me. Those two were Japanese officials, leaving the country. Had I known that then, I wonder how it would have influenced my choices throughout this insanity....
"This is nuts."
"Yeah, to think that the US of all people would be so adamant about this."
"It's not the people, it's the politicians, remember?"
"Don't remind me."
"Still, it's gonna take everyone back home, political and residential, to keep that monstrosity from wrecking our country as well."
"That's why I'm worried."
I sighed, and looked to the window as we gained altitude, overhearing their conversation. The idea of the ACTA was good in theory, stopping copyright infringement over the web. The problem was, there is no real way to clarify, and many politicians seem to love taking away rights, and getting as strict as possible. This leads to only one thing; anything remotely relevant to something copyrighted was fair game for them, and they leapt upon it like vultures to a corpse. People were arrested for simple crap, even fan art. Deviantart, a popular website for artists, was shut down in days. Large flash sites, like Newgrounds, were gone not long after. It was an internet apocalypse, and 4Chan hadn't caused it. Panic hit fast, and I was lucky I got out now.
As the captain turned on the PA to announce we were at cruising altitude, I took out my laptop and booted her up. She was an old model now, almost 5 years old. she'd taken a beating too, but she's served me faithfully. upon bootup, I opened project IDW, plugging in my headphones and setting them up for the link. "Misaki. Come in." No response. I waited a few moments, and repeated. "Misaki, come in." Slightly louder. I turned to the person next to me nervously. I noted the earbuds in his ears, and I could faintly hear music blaring from them. I deemed it safe that he wouldn't cause any problems. I turned back to the screen, worried that something had happened. I quickly put in the keystrokes to open the visual portion. The worry turned into frustration at the scene. A little louder, I stated, "Misaki. Remember me?"
A teacup rattled as it was set down in a hurry. The young woman turned over to me in surprise. "Nii-san!' She cried and ran to the computer.
"Hi, I take it nobody was paying attention?" Her surprised look turned to annoyance quickly.
"Ah, so we were supposed to wait on pins and needles for you, Nii-san?" I couldn't help but smile.
"You know, that venom-layered voice suits you better, ya know?" I joked. The response was certainly that of someone unamused.
"Is it? Then I should certainly stick to using it around you." I chuckled,
"Yep, you're still Akiha. Things all right on your end?" Her voice grew louder with anger, "Nii-san! You ask as if you had simply gone and bought food! Are you insane?" I took a deep breath, Akiha was hard to keep happy on a normal day, this was going to be a very thin tightrope. "Ok Akiha, you got me. It was stupid, i'll admit, but I can't simply drop off the map, you know who I am here. it was dangerous, but I had to for any of this to work. Besides, you think I like charging right to what could easily be death all the time?" Her eyes narrowed, "I don't know, you seem to do so an awful lot, Nii-san." I made a cringing face.
"C'mon Akiha, what's with the bitter barrage? I told you I'd be ok, can't I get a little happiness out of you for that?" I ventured a weak smile.
"Nii-san, you ask me to be happy for you for escaping what you put yourself into. You ask the impossible." With her mad like this, hope for getting anything done today seemed lost, until...
"Kyono-sama? Nee-san, Kyono-sama is alright." The two maids quickly clustered by Akiha. "Hisui, Kohaku. Glad to see everyone is ok." I couldn't help but smile, seeing all three of them again. "Kyono-san, it's good to see you again, Akiha-sama has been worried sick about you." Akiha's face turned red, unable to be angry at me with Kohaku spilling her feelings like that.
"Kohaku! Return to your duties!" She snapped quickly. I couldn't help but laugh a little, and opted to help her out a little. "Now now Akiha, Don't get too mad at her. I'm glad that you were worried for me." Looking away, her reply was quick, and proved she still had her wits while embarrassed.
"Of course, Nii-san. Someone has to, since you don't seem to." I clutched my heart, feigning pain. "Now that was mean! Just because I take the dangerous route doesn't mean I don't watch for my safety. At any rate, did everything get set up?"
Hisui jumped in at this point. "Yes Kyono-sama, Nee-san and I have set everything up as you requested." I smiled, "Thanks Hisui, Kohaku." Hisui bowed politely and Kohaku smiled, "Of course Kyono-san, it's our duty, after all."
The captain turned on the intercom again, stating that we were to begin our decent now. "Well crap. I gotta close this now, I'll talk to you again as soon as I can." Hisui and Kohaku nodded, Akiha turned and walked off without a goodbye. I closed the laptop and placed it back into the bag, as the plane dipped back to earth. On my way back down, my thoughts turned to what lay ahead. I knew very little of my foe, and moreover, I was one man, my voice of reason was at this point screaming, "What can one man do?" All I can do is smile, and answer, "More then most would ever want to believe."
When the plane finally landed in Japan, I stepped off, grabbed my bags, and stepped into the sunlight. Having no idea where anything is, I said one thing. "Nowhere to go but forward, even if I don't want to." I silently walked on, into what would be a true nightmare.
